A wedding is perhaps the most memorable event in every woman’s life. We prepare for it with inspiration and care, wanting everything to be perfect. This is especially true when it comes to the bride’s wedding look. Jewelry usually completes the bride’s wedding look; it is the final touch, the finishing note. It emphasizes the bride’s radiance, accentuates her beauty and charm, and adds elegance and romance. There are many different styles and combinations of jewelry, so in order not to get confused and look beautiful at your own wedding, it is important to pay attention to a few rules for choosing jewelry to go with your wedding dress.
The color of the jewelry should match the shade of the wedding dress.
If your dress is white, then the jewelry should be silver or pearl shades. Avoid gold-plated jewelry, as it will stand out too much against the background of the dress. For a snow-white wedding dress, choose silver-colored jewelry. For cream (champagne, ivory) dresses, gold-colored jewelry is ideal. If your outfit has colored inserts or ruffles, then jewelry with stones of the same color is the best choice.
It is not customary to mix jewelry styles:
- Do not wear precious metal jewelry together with costume jewelry.
- Do not adorn yourself with different types of stones at the same time.
- Do not wear jewelry made of different metals, such as silver and gold, together.
Decolletage area design:
The main criterion determining the shape and configuration of wedding jewelry is the neckline of your dress. Here are some recommendations based on the shape of the neckline:
Here are the types of necklines and bodices:
V-neckline: this traditional neckline shape calls for equally traditional jewelry. A V- or Y-shaped necklace would be suitable for this dress. If the straps are heavily decorated, a small pendant with a stone or pearl on a chain would look perfect.
Strapless: a strapless bodice with a straight neckline usually calls for a short, rounded necklace. In this case, you can choose either a large, chunky necklace or a simple but elegant necklace. A collar necklace or choker (a single or multi-row necklace that fits snugly around the neck) may be suitable for a dress that significantly exposes the shoulders, arms, and bust.
The same applies to a heart-shaped neckline. The only thing to keep in mind is that if the fabric is decorated with a large number of rhinestones and similar decorative elements, it is better to opt for more restrained options such as a rounded necklace or a V- or Y-shaped necklace.
Two types of jewelry are suitable for a dress with a U-shaped neckline: a necklace that fits snugly around the neck or a short, semi-circular necklace that echoes the shape of the neckline. This shape will effectively emphasize a beautiful bust. A deep neckline can be accentuated with a short pendant or balanced with a round necklace.
For a square neckline on your dress, choose simple jewelry that is not overly complex. Pearl jewelry that fits snugly around the neck is best, but other types of jewelry are also suitable. Double-layer necklaces are also a good choice.
Necklaces and chokers should not be worn with dresses that have a stand-up collar. For such a closed outfit, it is better to choose an elegant bracelet or consider a complex and sophisticated hairstyle.
In all cases, it is desirable that the length of the jewelry does not fall below the neckline of the wedding dress. This is acceptable for evening, business, and everyday looks.
Classic wedding jewelry set:
Nevertheless, the choice can sometimes be really difficult to make. To save time and, of course, your nerves, go for the safest classic option and choose a pearl necklace and earrings. The minimum classic set of wedding jewelry consists of:
- earrings or clips,
- a necklace, choker, or pendant,
- a bracelet (sometimes it is better to do without it),
- a wedding ring.
What jewelry can you do without?
- First, you can safely do without additional rings, especially on your right hand. This will emphasize the exceptional importance of the wedding ring on your wedding day.
- Second, wedding dresses can look great on the bride without a necklace. Some models are sold complete with lace or floral decorations for the neck and wrist. An American neckline, as well as any wedding dress design that covers the bust and neck, in most cases does not require a necklace.
- Thirdly, the absence of a bracelet will easily be overlooked on both richly decorated and simple dresses. If the bride does decide to adorn herself with a bracelet, it can be worn on a bare arm or over long wedding gloves.
